Vagabond of Month for March: Greg Y

Month you were born in:

November

Where you are originally from and/or where you live now:

Easton, MA

What days/times you typically train at VBC:

4:30 usually, but I’ll go whenever I can get in, Monday thru Friday 3 to 5 times a week

My proudest accomplishment(s) in my training:

This year’s opens are some of my proudest moments. After every open workout announcement I said to myself, “well I guess I’ll have to scale”…but I surprised myself and with everyone’s help, I completed 4 of the 5 workouts RX. I’m especially proud of finishing 16.2s, 7 cleans at 185# with a couple seconds to spare. Also getting my first 3 bar muscle ups in 16.3, after not even getting close the day before the workout. I’ll never forget those few weeks.

Some current training goals and/or personal goals are:

Staying healthy, getting stronger and continuing to improve every day. Hoping to get better and stronger with all Olympic lifts and gymnastics movements…and of course master those pesky double unders. Long term hoping to compete in more RX competitions.

What’s the best thing about Vagabond:

I love everything about Vagabond, but the people especially. Kevin, all the coaches and members have created an amazing community. Everyone is so supportive, friendly and like family. When I started 2 years ago, I was clueless and a bit nervous because I never went to a gym before and It can be intimidating. For my first group class, Kevin paired me with Joe Irvine and he was amazing…he took the time to teach me, was exceptionally patient and showed me the ropes. He exemplifies what being a Vagabond is. Joe gave me a great “first experience” and was a great role model.

Vagabond is my “happy place”. When I am there, for the hour to hour and half, I can forget about all the things that may be stressful or going wrong in life. I have fun and get some great work in with people I love. I always leave a little bit better than when I started everyday.

I owe a huge thanks to my friend and coworker Heather Wojcik. Every week for about two years, I had to hear her tell me to join Crossfit. Finally, after two years of Crossfit stories, I decided to give it a shot. I was hooked from the very first on ramp class. It has changed my life in a positive way. Vagabond has given me a competitive outlet I’ve been missing, has helped me lose over 20 pounds, eat healthier and of course put me in a community with all these amazing people. Everyday I thank her for pushing me to do something outside my comfort zone. I’m humbled to be selected and proud to be a part of Vagabond. It truly is a special place.
