Sirena Melton
Month you were born in:
July 3
Where you are originally from and/or where you live now:
Grew up in Brookline and been living in Easton for the past 3 years.
What days/times you typically train at VBC:
I’m known as a 6am’er but attend the 5:30pm class sometimes. I typically go 5 days a week but the days can vary depending on my kids activities. I’m there often enough though that my kids will automatically assume I’m going to the gym anytime I go out 🙂
My proudest accomplishment(s) in my training:
I feel like I’ve hit so many milestones since becoming a Vagabond. My proudest accomplishment though is coming in 10th in the scaled division of the Southie Showdown this year. It was beyond any of my expectations to finish anywhere in the Top 10 in such a competitive comp and I owe it all to Kevin for his awesome programming.
Some current training goals and/or personal goals are:
I’d like to eventually get a muscle up at some point in my Crossfit life. I’m also signed up for my first RX comp in February so I’m looking forward to working on and progressing my skills and strength to not come in dead last!
What’s the best thing about Vagabond:
Anything and everything! VBC has done nothing but improve my life physically, mentally and socially. Physically because I’ve grown stronger and more capable. Mentally because I’ve gained a confidence in myself that can be hard to come by. And socially because I’ve met people here that will be lifelong friends.
The coaching at VBC is second to none. The attention that each coach gives to every member is remarkable. Having been injured and needing to modify certain movements, it was comforting to know that Kevin, Jay, Andrew and Heather were all looking out for me and that my health was a priority to them. Not only are they all teaching us the right techniques and form but they’re always there to cheer us on and encourage us through any grueling workout.
The community is definitely one of the most amazing things about this gym. From 6am classes to Sat morning partner workouts, there’s always such a positive vibe and a wonderful sense of camaraderie. There are no egos which I love about Vagabond. Everyone is there to focus on the betterment of themselves and to support one another in any way, shape or form.
I’m absolutely humbled by this award as I see so many people at the gym putting in the hard work and dedication day in and day out. I think we’re all Vagabonds of the Month in our own right!
